We’re committed to empowering Australians to be suicide-safe through connection, compassion and hope. Our vision is for an Australia free of suicide. Lifeline was established in Port Pirie in 1977. In 1983 Lifeline Whyalla opened, closely followed by our Lifeline Port Augusta branch opening in 1985; collectively known as Lifeline Upper Spencer Gulf. In 2008 the organisation became known as Lifeline Country to Coast – which more clearly defines our service area. Lifeline Country to Coast SA is one of 42 independent accredited Lifeline centres across Australia. We are a non-profit organisation and attract broad based community support for a range of services. With a volunteer base of over 200 people we operate 11 Lifeline Retail outlets and bookshops across our service area. Our Lifeline Retail outlets provide good quality pre-loved clothing, books and household items; the income generated from Lifeline Retail support the provision of community suicide awareness education across our service area. Our experienced Accredited Exercise Physiologists at STARplex provide evidence-based gym sessions, hydrotherapy and home-based exercise. We treat chronic conditions (Osteoarthritis, mental health, cancer, obesity, diabetes and many more!) through enjoyable, individualised physical activity. We offer bulk billing services with no waiting lists through DVA (Gold and White card holders), NDIS self and plan managed participants, Medicare and diabetes care plans. Home care support packages, Return to Work and private health rebates are also available. We also run physiotherapy, dietetics, psychology, podiatry and veterans’ social groups.

At Gawler Environment Centre (GEC) we work with our local community to encourage action on environmental protection, sustainable land management and sustainable living. Our focus is knowledge sharing and taking action together, and we present a wide variety of workshops, projects and events every year. We are a community run incorporated not for profit organisation. We run monthly workshops and webinars that encompass everything from native plant propagation and weed management, to eco arts and crafts and low waste living. Every second month we run Gawler Repair Cafe, where community members can have household items repaired free of charge and help to divert waste from landfill. We partner with Gawler Environment and Heritage Association to run the annual Understorey native plant sale, and support local community groups with their revegetation and restoration projects. We initiated the innovative Eco Coffin Project, which explores natural burial options, and we are currently assisting the Gawler Community Garden group to establish our regions first community garden.
