Gawler Rail Corridor Policy Uplift Impact Analysis – Consultation

Gawler Rail Corridor Policy Uplift Impact Analysis – Consultation

In 2008, the South Australian State Government announced a plan to rebuild the Gawler-Adelaide rail corridor in preparation for the line to be upgraded and electrified in a two staged approach. This project was ultimately committed to with funding secured by both the State and Federal Governments. The electrification of the Gawler line is now well underway and anticipated to be delivered in 2021.

The $715 million electrification and modernisation of the Gawler rail line will deliver a faster, cleaner and more reliable service, resulting in an electrified network from Gawler to Seaford.

As a result of these funding commitments, The Town of Gawler (Council) budgeted to undertake a Transit Oriented Town Centre Development Plan Amendment (DPA) in the 2018/19 financial year. This DPA was supported by a number of Council’s strategic documents and proposed to amend land use policies in the Gawler Central Precinct. These proposed amendments sought to allow a Transit Oriented Development precinct to be serviced by an electrified and direct rail corridor to the Adelaide CBD.
